Make use of what nature gives you

As hot, dry summers lead to falling groundwater levels, hosepipe bans are becoming increasingly common. To conserve resources while keeping your plants and flowers thriving, consider using harvested rainwater.
By placing a recycled plastic bin beneath your downpipe, you can collect free, soft water that is ideal for flower beds. This not only provides sustainable irrigation but also prevents excess water from pooling around the foundations of your home.
If you have fruit trees in your garden, make the most of your harvest by using the produce for pies, jams, and other treats. For anything intended for consumption, ensure you use a food-grade bin.
It is also wise to clear away fallen autumn fruit that has begun to spoil, as it can attract unwanted pests like snails and rats. To dispose of it, you can take the fruit to a recycling centre for biogas conversion or leave it in a suitable woodland area for local wildlife. Using a bin with a secure lid makes transport easy and mess-free.
