Plastic pot care guide
Plastic flower pots are home gardeners’ reliable companions. Plastic pots stand the test of time and can handle all kinds of weather conditions. They are also lightweight, easy to move, and effortless to clean.
High-quality plastic is a durable material that can last for years of active use. With a few simple maintenance tricks, you can extend the lifespan of your pots even further. We have gathered some tips below to help you take the best possible care of your pots.

Extend the lifespan of your plastic pots with these tips:
Protect from the weather and store correctly
Many Orthex pots are designed to withstand outdoor use, even in winter. However, if your pots are not in use year-round, you can protect them from the wearing effects of the weather by storing them indoors during the winter, for example, in a shed or garage.
If you store empty pots outdoors, turn them upside down to prevent water or dirt from accumulating inside. Also, keep in mind that plastic is more sensitive to impacts in cold temperatures.
Clean thoroughly
Clean the dirt off your pots thoroughly before putting them away. Wash the pots with mild washing-up liquid and a soft brush. Avoid abrasive sponges or steel wool, as a scratched surface collects dirt more easily.
If white limescale from watering has built up on the rim of the pot, try wiping it away with a mild vinegar solution.
Avoid direct sunlight
When your pots are not in use, it is best to store them out of direct light. Prolonged, intense sunshine and UV light wear down plastic and can fade colours over time.
Stack smartly
When stacking empty pots for storage, ensure they are completely dry. You can slip a piece of paper between the pots to prevent them from sticking together, which helps you avoid cracking the rims when separating them.
Use for longer and get creative!
Make a sustainable choice by using the same pots for as long as they remain intact. If the surface of a pot has become worn over time, it can still serve perfectly as an inner liner, for example, inside a larger terracotta or ceramic pot.
Recycle at the end of life
If your plastic pots are still in good condition but you no longer need them, consider donating or selling them. For broken pots that have reached the end of their lifespan, please check the specific disposal guidelines and recycling options in your local area.
