Relax in a clean sauna

Many people love to unwind and relax in a sauna, whether at home or at the cottage. Here are some tips for keeping your sauna clean and well-maintained:
Keep your sauna cleaner by washing yourself before heading for a steam and using a towel under you when sitting. Especially in a cottage sauna, dirt often finds its way in through your feet, so make sure to rinse them thoroughly in the shower or in a wash basin placed by the sauna door.
Ensure a good steam! Check the condition of the sauna stones annually and replace them if needed. It's also a good idea to perform a general inspection of the stove at the same time.
Regularly brush off dust and loose dirt from the floor, walls, and ceiling.
The frequency of sauna cleaning depends on how often it's used, but as a rule of thumb, it's good to give the sauna a thorough cleaning a couple of times a year, for example, before Christmas and Midsummer.
It's advisable to clean the sauna when it's cool. Dampen the wooden surfaces with warm water and wash them with a general-purpose cleaner or a cleaner specifically designed for saunas. Brush along the wood grains. If the benches are fixed, ensure your cleaning tool fits between them. Rinse first with warm water and finally with cold water to close the wood pores. Wash, rinse, and dry the floor. Don't forget to clean the floor drain. Ventilate the sauna well.
After cleaning, it's a good idea to heat the sauna for a while to ensure it dries properly. The same applies after using the sauna – don't turn it off immediately, but let it dry in the warmth.
Matching sauna buckets, wash bowls and water scoops uplift the sauna's appearance. All our buckets and wash bowls are made in Finland.

Enjoy your sauna moments!
